Health & Dental Plan Opt-Out for 91±¬ÁÏ Graduate Students – Deadline & Important Information
Are you already covered by another health or dental insurance plan? You may be eligible to opt out of the UTGSU Health & Dental Plan for the 2024-2025 academic year. Here’s everything you need to know!
Opt-Out Eligibility
If you’re covered by an equivalent health and/or dental plan (such as a parent’s or spouse’s employee benefit plan), you can opt out during the following periods:
- Fall Change-of-Coverage Period: September 5 - 30, 2024
- Winter Change-of-Coverage Period: January 6 - 31, 2025 (for new students starting in January)
You will need to provide proof of equivalent coverage to opt out of either the Health Plan or the Dental Plan, or both. Provincial health care (such as OHIP) is not considered equivalent to the UTGSU Health & Dental Plan.
How to Opt Out
- Visit during the applicable Change-of-Coverage Period.
- Submit your proof of equivalent coverage.
- Once your opt-out is completed and processed, a refund is issued via email money transfer or direct deposit after the end of the Change-of-Coverage Period.
Important Notes:
- Opt-Out Validity: If you opt out, your opt-out remains valid for the entire academic year (Sept. 1, 2024 – Aug. 31, 2025). If you return as an eligible student next year, you’ll be automatically re-enrolled and will need to opt out again if you wish to remain out of the plan.
- Fees: All university fees, including health and dental, are paid upfront, even if you are opting out. Refunds will be processed after your opt-out is finalized.
